Excerpt from The Book: "The Little Red Hen"

Once upon a time, there was a little red hen who wanted to bake a cake. She went to the barnyard and asked the other animals if they would help her. "Will you help me gather the wheat?" she asked."Not I," said the cow. "I'm too busy grazing." "Not I," said the pig, "I'm too busy playing in the mud." "Not I, " said the duck, "I'm too busy swimming."The little red hen went back to her house and started to gather the wheat herself. She gathered the wheat, she ground the wheat, she mixed the batter, and she put the cake in the oven.When the cake was done, the little red hen called to the other animals. "Will you help me eat the cake?" she asked."Yes, I will," said the cow. "Yes, I will," said the pig. "Yes, I will," said the duck.The animals ate the cake and they all said, "Thank you, little red hen, for baking the cake. The little red hen smiled and said, "You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it."
